Summary
The Stone Spirits is a part of the Kapaemahu exhibition. The exhibition itself revolves around the history of the healer stones of Kapaemahu, as well as the history of traditional healing techniques, māhū in Hawai’i, and other gender identities across Oceania.

Within the grounds of Bishop museum are stones that are culturally relevant, but were in danger of being damaged or destroyed, typically due to the development of the land that they first resided. Each stone has a different story and purpose, whether they were utilized as land markers or a part of altars to leave offerings.
Design
Each 3D model of the stone was created through photogrammetry. A looping video of the stones were then created and projected onto a transparent projection screen to create a “hologram” affect. A brief history of each stone is then shared.
